I'd intended to enter another oldie for this challenge, but I really liked the cattail leaves in this image and the way they go from in focus in the front to nicely soft in the distance.  Taken at Nisqually NWR yesterday morning.

7Dii, Sigma 150-600 C @ 600 mm, tripod with ballhead and Sidekick, F/7.1, 1/1600, iso 2500, aperture priority, pattern metering.  Processed in LR & PS CC.  Full frame.  I used a little Topaz detail on the bird and brightened the eye quite a bit.  Taken May 24th at 9:23 am under overcast skies.  A bit of breeze made for some nice swaying in the reeds.

Your comments and critiques are always appreciated.

Thanks for taking a look,

Dennis, this is a fine look at this Red-winged Blackbird and it's habitat.  The bird stands out well, as the cattails cover the location and the bird's behavior.  A good job of story telling.

Perfect for the WC, Dennis.  I love the shot very much.  He really does stand out nicely in his habitat.  I was amazed this year that we had about 6 or 7 of these Red-winged Blackbirds to hang out in our yard for a few days.  I never got a really good shot of them, lighting, location of the yard they would visit wasn't the best.  Anyway, you nailed this one nicely.
