Arctic Explosion

One from earlier last year in a trip to Finland, I went show shoeing up "arctic hill" where all the trees freeze over, the sunrise was well worth it! Very cold though - about -20 celcius

Lovely colors and comp. The pure expanse of snow is very appealing with lots of texture and soft shadows.

Tim, your efforts were definitely rewarded with this pristine winter landscape.  Love the soft pink and blue tones of the snow, but it's the sunburst that really makes it a magical place.

Nice imaging, Tim.  Certainly has that cold look.  I don't think my camera would function at that level.

I really love the quality of the image. The tone and color detail richness is wonderful to behold. The highlights in the sky retain their tonal richness.

Glorious light and conditions. The long shadows work well as leading lines. I'm on the fence about that stump in the foreground. On the one hand it fills the empty left foreground, on the other hand I find it a little distracting. Did you take any compositions in front of it? The processing is perfect IMO.

Mesmerizing photo - I particularly like the snow encrusted trees casting their shadows on the pristine snow at dawn.

Beautiful capture of the light rays, colors and snow textures, Tim!  Good job with the composition.  You got the trees in all the right places for a good balance. This looks just like interior Alaska in the middle of the winter!

Thanks guys,

Regarding batteries - I didn't have any problem with my phase one batteries in -20 celcius, I did however keep them warm in my down jacket until I needed to shoot. The next day a friend came up there with me and it was quite funny because he took his iphone out of his pocket and it just switched off immediately each time he took it out of his pocket. :)
