Black Bear
by Barbara Graham
For the last couple of years I lived in Florida I wanted so badly to find a Florida black bear, and I spent hours going down to Ocala National Forest and riding up and down the dirt roads but never found one. I now live in Decatur (Atlanta area), Georgia, and about a month ago I went to Cades Cove in the Smoky Mountains National Park and saw several yearlings and one cub from this year (very briefly). It's likely that the yearlings were all out eating because they've just recently been pushed out by their mother, who would have just had new cubs. Anyway, it's not a Florida black bear, but it is a black bear, so I'm happy.
The light and green were kind of funky in this, so rather than deal with that I made it B&W since the contrast between the bear and everything else was so striking anyway.
