Take Out at Tide Flats

An adult Bald Eagle taking off with its snack.  It was close and I was following it but I was just a bit slow and it ended up in the right side of the frame.  So I did a square crop and it turned out OK.  Best if viewed large.

Sony a6500, FE100400GSM @ 100mm , ISO-160, f/5.0, 1/3200, hand held.

Another great flight shot! Eagle and BG are perfect, and the OOF eagle is a great addition.
The square crop works fine, but you could also add a bit to the right with the "Content-Aware'  tool.

Very nice.  Another one of your images with a strong 3D look to it.  Nicely captured.  I like the OOF eagle in the background flying away.  It also adds to the dimension of the image.

Sweet image, Gary.  The square crop works nicely and I love the background.  The out of focus eagle is a nice touch.

Very impressive point of view in this image.  You did an excellent job with the detail on the Eagle and I really like the ridge and mountains out of focus in the background.  The out of focus Eagle in the background adds to the depth of field.  Almost has a 3D effect.  Cool!

This is just wonderful Gary!  Love everything about it.  You are certainly getting close to these eagles to get this much eagle in the frame at 100mm.  Amazing detail in the bird.

This is pretty impressive, Gary. Looks like that Sony gear is an excellent mirrorless, and light weight package to boot. Even with missing the framing it's still very good. And the 100 focal length worked great to get all the bird in sharp focus.

Thanks, Bill.  Yes, the Sony a6500 has turned out to be quite a little camera for the price and for the size.  With 425 phase detection auto focus points working together with contrast focus it locks on to a subject very quick and stays on it like a bulldog, even if something goes between.  Then you throw in 5-axis in-body stabilization that works in conjunction with the lens stabilization if it has it plus 10 fps in raw.  The FE 100-400 GSM lens is also a full frame lens so I'm only using the center of the glass plus the crop factor makes it a 150-600 mm.  It's also an extremely sharp lens all the way through and works seamlessly with the a6500.  I posted an action sequence in the Bird Photography Forum that really demonstrates how well the system works.  The eagle in that series was flying directly toward me plus I was zooming out as it approached and every frame was in focus (there were a lot more frames than I included in the series).

I love images that have a lot of different elements that come together and allow us to explore the frame.  There's so much cool stuff going on here, from the main subject to the varied background to the bonus eagle.  Nice shot, Gary.

This is awesome Gary!  It has such a 3-D effect.  I'm noticing what might be a slight halo just above the top wing, but that's very minor.  Congrats on a fantastic eagle shot! devil

Gary

I was not able to participate here much for awhile and missed this shot.  What a fine flight shot of this eagle and a appropriate background for the shot.  Just fine all the way around.  Congratulations on the WP!

I love this photo - amazing to me due to the gorgeous background.  Honestly I'm bored with all of the eagle photos against the sky background that are so common.  This photo is extra special!
