Raven Point

On trip out west last fall we spent a day at the east rim of the Grand Canyon. I climbed down the rocks a bit to get this weathered limb as a leading line into the scene when this Raven flew in right on cue and posed for several shots before departing. This was the best image out of the series due to the angle of the subject to the sun bringing out the iridescent blues in the feathers and the catch light in the eye.

Please see large version for best detail

Well seen and recorded!  The raven makes this a special image of the Grand Canyon.  Great color and I like you have detail throughout.  Thanks for sharing.

Not often one gets a bird photo at 24 mm, Mike.  This image is just awesome.  I love the way the iridescence brings out tones that match the colors in the canyon and the short focal length gave you full depth of field.

Even without the raven this is an amazing image,  It has an HDR feel to it.  The larger version has much better detail in the blacks.  Well done.

Hmmmm, not sure about this one, Mike.
The concept and luck is excellent, but the raven seems a little soft, and there is quite a bit of noise.
Excellent colours and perspective.
GREAT potential here, if you can clean it up just a bit.
Still, a nice image.

I like the concept.  Not wild about the final product.  Can't believe nobody has mentioned the overly blue/cyan sky.  The clouds are blue, not white.  Looks like a lot of saturation in a grad filter in LR or PS.  The bottom part of the image feels natural, the top does not. I'd like to see the unadjusted raw file to understand more.

Perfect, Mike!  How fortunate to have your camera ready, image all framed, and have a Raven come and land on the old dead limb!  Great shot of it as well as the Grand Canyon.

Yes Mike, I'm also seeing a little bit too much blue/cyan saturation in this one however it is a pretty cool image considering that you were able to get the wide-angle of the canyon and bird in focus.  The Grand Canyon is a tough place to take images because of the atmospheric conditions.  This looks like it was taken from Desert View.

A cool moment and a wonderful, iconic setting.  The larger version is definitely better to look at, and I see the color caste issues others mention (it's most notable to me in the raven's plumage), but my first suggestion would be to watch your horizon next time.  A slightly lower position would have separated the perch from the background better, giving it some breathing room above the canyon wall.
