Hunting the lagoon
by Peter J. Morrissey
This Egret was photographed on a very clouded day in the San Elijo Lagoon Ecological Reserve, Solana Beach, CA. The town is dredging the sand from the lagoon to rebuild the Solana Beaches. This action has renewed a feeding ground Egret and Heron.
The shot was cropped by 15% and I adjusted the blacks, clarity and saturation, in LightRoom 5.

I prefer the one with the naturally-coloured, yellow beak.
The beak gets lost in both images; I'm not sure what could be done. .
Perhaps lightening the sand directly behind the beak?
At any rate, a really fine image!

Comp looks good and I do not have a preference over color vs BW versions. I would clone out the curved stem in the upper LH corner or crop it tighter.. Well done......................Jim
