American Avocet

by S Govindarajan

An American Avocet in breeding colors catching some evening sun. These birds are fast losing their colors now - I took this image a couple of weeks ago and last week, most of them already had their winter plumage. The foreground is dried lake bed.

Techs: 840mm, 1/2000s@F8, -1Ev, ISO400. Full frame, processed for web.

Good low angle and excellent detail. I like the layering of the BG. The colors are a little flat, but that may be a matter of taste and lighting.

A very nice pose, and I like the three layered foreground/background, Govind.  On my monitor the image is looking rather dark.  Excellent detail in the Avocet.

I think the light is quite warm and rich without being over saturated.  Good pose and excellent background.

Good pose and detail. I might lift the brights a bit to give more contrast.

This is a wonderful composition.  Great pose and background.  Agree with others that it could use some brightening up and perhaps a bit more contrast.

Very nice image of the bid. The bird's shadow and the tri-color background add interest. There's a very slight sharpening halo along the bill of the bird.
