Monsoon Madness

This is a sunset image taken looking almost straight north.  It's rare to get this much color in this direction for sunset, but when it does happen, it's nice having the mountains as a foundation.

My intention when shooting was to create a "light sandwich" using the mountains and top, dark cloud as the "bread."  It seemed to provide a bit of unexpected symmetry.  Along with the mostly centered main cloud, I also thought there were maybe some other symmetrical shapes around the scene as well.  Definitely subtle, but a lot of actual sandwiches do have some internal symmetry when you stop and think about. (Just trying to push this sandwich metaphor as far as I can.)

Let me know if you have any thoughts, sandwich-related or otherwise.

I was enjoying a late lunch so it was nice to add a light sandwich to my cottage cheese.  Love the explosion of light and color. The patch of deep blue works well to compliment the sunset colors.  Gotta love monsoon skies.  Very nice, Tony.

Don't know about sandwiches but the rendering of the sky is excellent. It looks both like a painting and real at the same time.

I light the sandwich metaphor, and I think it communicates your focal point well.  The light is the thing here, and it works very well.

That’s some crazy colour and cloud formation. Love the drama and overall atmosphere here.
On a side note, I’m with Marc Adamus in Alaska this week and he mentioned you and some of the stuff you taught him about focus stacking.

The drama and color in the sky is outstanding, Tony.  The ridge at the bottom provides a nice anchor.  That cloud near the middle looks like it could easily explode into a major thunderstorm.  The touch of blue sky really is the icing on the cake.

Tony, my thought would be to thin the top slice of pumpernickel bread.

This is really gorgeous Tony. It exhibits your typical attention to both the composition and processing. The main cloud formation (center of the sandwich) looks almost like an explosion of sorts. I am drawn to the detail in there. The dark and ominous clouds at the top and the mountain range at the bottom nicely frame the composition. The color, especially the blues, are also so beautiful.

Just stunning and dramatic. Sometimes you get these blessings when you are out looking for them.
