The Perfect Landing

This Snowy Egret aimed for the Perfect Landing by the looks of it - at least perfect to the fact that it did so right in front of me enlightened.

Nikon D4s @ 500mm | 1/2000s | f4 | ISO320 | handheld

Thanks for viewing and have a good week !

It is a perfect landing, Hans.  Love his pose for you.  I am assuming that the Snowy not being a brilliant snowy white is caused by the time of day (light).  If I could recommend, there is a spot of something (probably a flying insect) just to the left of the feet, that might could be cloned out.  Otherwise, it looks like a wonderful avian image.  I just love the Snowy Whites and their yellow feet!

Hans, I have to say this is the best landing posture of a Snowy I've seen in quite some time (maybe ever). Their distinctive feet have always been a pleasure for me to see and photograph. Makes for a fine addition to your gallery. The golden hour light is beautiful. I noticed the dark bit as Shirley did, but certainly no deal breaker as it can be fixed should you choose. My only suggestion is that you may want to reduce the vignette a little by bringing up the light levels in the edges. And I think that you could increase overall exposure a stop or so, which I believe could easily keep the whites in check without a blowout. All of course at your discretion. Overall this is among your best work, and thank you for sharing.

HI Hans
Really nice landing, the only thing I would do is re-balance the whites to take some the yellow out of the Snowy.

Thanks all for commenting and suggesting.
I reworked the image with all the feedback given, to see what the result would be. Maybe since it's stored in my memory that there was beautiful evening light I find it hard to let go of the golden glow enlightened. But, here's the result .
Thanks again !

Beautiful light and a great landing pose, Hans.  I don't have any problem with the yellowish look to the Egret-that's what you saw.  I see no reason to change the color of an image to a particular warmth of light.  Well done.

Fantastic flight pose and well composed, Hans. I particularly like the light and spread out wings. I like both the original and repost - I go with your idea of the scene when you captured this image.
