Great shot. Amazingly sharp for an in flight shot.
The background really sets off the birds color.

This is only the second flight shot I've seen of this species (the other is a shot I took here in AZ a couple years ago that recently was used for an airline magazine). I wish mine looked this good!

This really shows off the characteristic short tail of this species, and I love the feather detail yuou've got here.

Holy ....

Jim, this is one of the finest flight shots I've seen, period. Having spent tons of time with this species, I find this shot absolutely incredible.

Stunning shot!! :jump: :toast: :jump: I would like to see some room top and bottom - maybe a vertical crop with some canvas added if needed?

Jim,

Great shot. I'm amazed at the really sharp focus you've achieved hand-holding a 500mm. Did you use IS and, if so, do you believe it contributed to the sharpness in this photo?

Fabulous!!

Tom, Yes I used IS 1 which I leave on all the time. No I don't think it makes any difference on flight shots like this one. If I turn it off, I'll likely forget to turn it back on, so I just leave it on. Some say you should turn it off for flight because it slows down AF, but if it does, it's not enough for me to notice the difference.
