Tempting Fate....

Well, here I was stalking this boring little fly to try and get a macro shot when what did it do but land right on the head of a resting Eastern Garter snake that was sharing the same patch of field as I.

This was taken with my Canon 10D and Sigma 180mm macro, handheld at 1/320 @ f5.

I followed the snake around for a bit after that, but nothing compared to the fluke of getting the fly. Yes, I could have cloned some stuff out of this shot...but chose not to. Hope the stick in the lower left does not detract too much.

My first snake shot!

Cheers,

Nice capture Robert! What a wonderful opportunity to catch a unique shot, and you did it perfectly IMO. My eye is immediately drawn to the tack sharp face, and I find nothing distracting about the peripheral areas. :toast:

I didn't notice the stick until you mentioned it; it also would be real easy to take out. The shot is fantastic. :toast:

Nothing distracting in the background for me. The tack sharp eye and fly draw attention immediately, and nothing causes my eye to wander elsewhere.

Thankyou all for the comments...much much appreciated.

Gee...nothing like a snake to ruin a great fly shot! :)

hehe...I hope I see more this summer. (Snakes that is).

Cheers,

Outstanding interaction of two species. Very marketable also, but what an opportunity, and you nailed it.
