David,
This is great!!! Seems you have been holding out on us. I would have posted this one long ago. I assume you shot this in the summer or fall of last year. This is a grasshopper nymph (wingless). After hatching they go through molting five times and developing through five instars before turning into winged adults. This is a stage I like to photograph them in because of their wierd looking shapes.

Wonderfully sharp, well designed, beautiful photograph. I think it's from the Orion Nebula, certainly it's not an earth creature!!!

Wicked image! DOF is right on , background is superb , beautiful way to show this in it's environment. Love that dangling foot too! Cripes what more could you ask for? One suggestion possibly, is a little more room
on the right and perhaps down, if you had any in the original frame. To me it's thinking about moving in that direction! Tim

Hi David,
What a remarkable shot and a remarkable creature. It seems the closer one gets to any of these insects the more interesting they become. Well done for going in so close for us.

David - This has got to be one of the finest "cute" grasshopper images I've seen posted. This lil bugger is adoreable. One really fine image! Awesome!

Now this should be the image of the week and the month and maybe the year, fantastic shot here, nothing to nit pik that would make this image any better, this is one cute hopper in a great setting, I guess if there was something I would like to see a little different might be a more consistent color to the background here, but a very minor distraction to such a nice shot as this.

The texture off this little guy it amazing...you have a super subject!
I love also the composition and the positioning on the border on the leaf adds tension to the shot.
