I made this image about 2 years ago - early in my digital carreer. There was a rain storm that created a pretty good run off in a culvert outside my home. At the enterance to the pipe under the drive the water made several patches of bubbles. This is a shot of one of them.
I used a 10D with 75-300 @ 300. I then cropped the image enough to reveal the details of the individual bubbles. I believe the crop is about 60%. The color in the bubbles is caused by the oil running off the black top road.
This certainly is a different way to look at water. Which, of course is exactly why I made the image

10 commentsa nice image and one could not believe that that is water...
I thought I would post the original image from which I made this crop. There is still a lot of color, but the buble size is more impressive in the cropped version.
Thanks again to all who looked and commented.
The one thing I find distracting about the crop is that it feels like the camera angle is coming from the bottom left, but its not a very smooth transition and seems to fall into the back right corner farther from the camera. Maybe consider playing with photoshop distortions a bit to even it out a bit and see how it looks?
Alternatively, you could also crop a bit closer, starting at the bottom left, since the bubbles there are more pleasing than the ones in the top right corner and the right edge.
Just a suggestion.
Very nice image!
