Among the Dead

During a wonderfully illuminated visit to Zion NP, I made this image in the high country. This specimen was better footed in the rock than I was, standing on that grade. Nearly fell over a few times, but I think it was worth the effort.

Looks good to me and a terrific shapely grey tree against the red walls of Zion. Great shot, good eye.

What a great subject! It is just a wonderful collection of shapes and textures. I like that the framing nips off the branches. It keeps me focused on the nice flourish of the tree trunk.

Good strong graphic design. I like the shape of the branches and how the color contrasts with the red rock.

Very nice. As you know, I am a sucker for shots of trees (alive or dead) against rock walls. This one works quite well.

The lines and textures are terrific. Well seen.

I see you used a macro lens and it is something I've considered doing for close-up work. How does this lens compare to non-macro lenses for this type of work. I had read that there really was no discernable difference between the two until you got down to 1:1 reproduction ratios....???

I'm on my soon-to-be-in-the-trash-can work monitor so the colors look fairly dark (I'm sure they're not) I'm all over it, Jeff!

Excellent composition and image! My only nit is that the contrast is a bit heavy and the color saturation a tad strong.

Wonderfully intense image. I think it all works well together. I agree that it looks just a bit oversaturated / high contrast.

I see this is a large format image, so I reckon you have room to reframe this. I think you can crop in from all sides and retain the feel of the place while improving the graphics of what you show.

Great! Back ground and never imagine it took from Macro. Velvia is best choice for vivid color. Nice work done on contrast and exposure.
