Summer storm

This is a scene I came across a few years ago while wandering the Colorado prairie backroads southeast of Colorado Springs.

Taken with a Pentax 6x7, 75mm lens (most likely), on a tripod, with Velvia. This is a scan of the full-frame image.

Nit-picking and honest critiques are most welcome, as are re-posts for illustration.

Rich:

Wow...no nit picking from me. I love it. Your choice of composition and placement of the tree and windmill in the MG are great. You were also blessed with a great, dramatic sky. What a great image IMO.

I wish it were in my portfolio!!

Kudos.

Just for kicks, I would like to see a conversion to black and white.

Joe.

Rich, love it all but IMO a little cropping of the sky would make the image have more impact. The colors are wonderful. Thanks for sharing

Very nice. Big storm over wide open spaces. The windmill is such a nice touch.

Rich, great shot. I also think that cropping the sky would add more impact. I like your placement of the windmill and tree in the frame. That sheet of rain looks cool also.

Love the color. The sky is the story of this. I don't think I'd change a thing. Great shot.

This smacks you in the face and screams "PRARIE" like nobody's business. Outstanding image.

This screams but one word, "STOCK". This is a truely wonderful shot out in the flatlands. I'd like to see a few more from this grouping, if you have them. I really like its!

Richard,
This is quite beautiful! I think a crop of the sky to more of a pano could be a powerful possibility.

I agree with Andy's comments! I also love it just as it is, the huge menacing sky makes that windmill even more insignificant in the grand scheme of things. Randy
