Mystic Sunrise

This was taken pre-dawn on a recent trip to the South Carolina coast. Beyond the sandbar is the Atlantic Ocean, smoothed over by a 30 second exposure. And yes, I am very happy with the lack of digital noise on this image. Cropped slightly from both the top and bottom. What do you think?

Gorgeous! Would look great big, and hanging on a wall!

What do I think? I think it is one of the most beautiful images that I have seen on here. The simplicity and the colors are amazing. I also like the foreground elements. They provide a great lead in. Nice work, Richard.

I think it's wonderful. I'm glad also about the noise levels as I shoot a D2X as well. Haven't had any 30 sec. exposures yet, but it's nice to know you can. Did you have the noise reduction turned on in camera?

I love the icy colors near the rocks, as well as the details in the sand, and the pastel sunrise is magnificent.

Soft and soothing (soft in color, not sharpness) - It almost looks to me like 2 skies meeting at the horizon, an illusion foiled by the well placed rocks. Excellent job.

I love the color and the way the rocks seem to be floating. It's a very serene image.

WOW! This is gorgeous Richard! Stunning in it's peaceful simplicity. Those stones are the perfect compliment to a smooth, richly colored scene. I love all the horizantal lines, patterns and textures throughout. Excellent work. :toast:

Oh, yeah, Richard, this is the ticket! I love the "weirdness" of those "floating" rocks!

Richard,

Just excellent. Now that 35mm f/2 wouldn't be the manual focus 35mm f/2 AIS would it??? Don't you just love being able to use all the old Nikon glass with the D2X?

A fascinating and beautiful image, Richard. At first glance, the ripples near the rocks look like clouds which makes the placement of the rocks difficult to reconcile. Once the mind adjusts, it's a powerful effect. Congrats on a wonderful image.

I've made some 30 - 45 second exposures with my D2X recently and was very impressed with lack of noise.

This is beautiful.

I like those rocks. They're great. You knew that.

I wonder if a less-close-to-center horizon might make it better, but who cares? It's a beautiful photograph. Thanks for showing it!

I also like a square image cropping off from the top.

Good photography.

A very beautiful shot that exploits soft transition of colour through pink to blue and anchors the image with the strong shape of the rocks and texture of the rippled sand / wind blown water.

What a great composition and what gorgeous light to go with it. I wonder if a 2-stop would have made the sky look more in balance with the light on the foreground though.

Congrats on your EP. Certainly well deserved. I kinda figured it might be either be this or your "My Tree" shot. Both were outstanding. :toast:
