Little blue Kingfisher

This is one of the only pictures I have of this bird that turned out OK. I was learning to use the new features that came along with the 350D and forgot to turn back my ISO number from 1600 to 200 for most of the shots I took of these little guys. :frown:
I know that the twig on the left is a bit distracting, but I tried cloning it out a couple of times and it didn't really do this beautifull bird justice. So for now I am posting it like this.

Canon EOS 350D 1/320 f6.3 Evaluative ISO 400
Sigma 170.0 - 500.0mm APO
Focal Length 500.0mm
I cloned out some twigs, croped some and used sharpening/color adjustment

The twig doesn't bother me. It adds a natural feel. Great exposure and sharpness. Catchlight in the eye adds depth.

You're being a bit to hard on yourself Krijn...this is an excellent shot of one of the most beautiful species of kingfishers! The twig on the left...yes...it's a bit distracting, but besides that this is a beauty.

This is world-class stuff, Krijn !

Where did you take this? I'm sure it wasn't as easy at it looks.

Thanx everyone for your positive comments.

Mike this was taken at Bali, there were some fishponds were these little guys were pretty common. I think it took me about 20 times before they let me approach close enough to take a decent shot  After that day they didn't let me come as near as the first day though. I am happy to have this one

Hi Krijn,

This is a beautiful little bird. I don't find the twig too distracting, and I really like the rest of the perch - the spider webs make it unique for me. Great work!

Good shooting,

Beautiful! I think the twig on the left actually adds to the picture because it really puts the bird "in frame" of a natural setting. So do the spiderwebs on the leaf and twigs to the right.

The colors--esp. the contrast of the brilliant electric blues and white of the bird against the yellow-green of the background--are perfect. Including the "shading" of tones in the background that keeps it from being too flat.
