Wolf on the Prowl

This gray wolf was one of about six that we encountered the first morning we were with Jess Lee on his February 2006 photo workshop in Yellowstone. As he mentioned in his post a couple of days ago, it was indeed 25 below zero, but neither we nor the wolves cared at all! We had an unbelievably exciting morning making wolf images!

This image was slightly cropped on the top and right side.
Canon 20D, 500mm f4 + 1.4 TC, Wimberley on Gitzo tripod, 1/2000s at f/5.6.

*fanstastic shot*, Charlie!

I love wolves to begin with, and the light, dreamy background really accentuates this photo for me. Then add the touch of snow on the wolf's face, and the dynamic pose.. at the risk of repeating myself, fabulous!

Christian,
This is not one of the Druids. My understanding of Jess Lee's comments is that this group of six wolves that we encountered that morning may have been forming another pack. We sighted these wolves between Mammoth and Tower Junction. At least one was radio collared and was being tracked by the researchers.

This is just wonderful!!!! Technically excellent. The white on white works very well and the warm light is stunning. A wallhanger for sure!

Nice Job Charlie.
The really interesting thing is that you had just arrived from +75 degrees in Houston to Yellowstone at -25. That was a awesome job!
