Tanker Dreams

This was shot last spring. The whole bay was filled with pea soup fog and from the water level you would never guess that the sky was clear and the sun was out. I guessed that was the case so I drove up the mountain to a location overlooking the Valdez Marine Terminal (Valdez, Alaska) where I was above the fog. All that could be seen was fog surrounded by the mountains which were bathed in morning alpenglow. While I was taking a couple multiple frame panoramas the fog started to dissapate and a tanker, moored at one of the berths began to show through. I shot this frame and since then have sold multiple prints to employees of the company that owned the tanker and to employees of the Marine Terminal

Wow. Great range of tones. Great scene. I love the incidental diagnals in the foreground. The mountains are surreal. Well done!

Great shot, Gary. I love the mood with the fog and how the tanker seems to be floating on air. The snow covered mountains are the perfect backdrop.

A real stunner Gary. The ship adds a great sense of scale. I think it helps the mystery of the shot too.

Very very beautiful :)

I would have included a little more of the sky and a little more at the bottom too, this feels a bit tight composition to me.

Thanks, all, for the encouraging comments! :wavey:

Maybe I'll have to post the very large panorama that shows the whole valley filled with fog.

Hi Gary I've seen this shot posted before. It hought it was utterly stunning then and still see absolutely no reason to change my mind. I have nothing but admiration for it and it is no surprise to me that the print has sold like hot cakes to the employees there.
