This looks to me to be some kind of thistle, although I can't find it in the botanical book. Taken with Canon 20D, using 100-400 IS lens.
All comments welcome.

Hey Pat, I can't help on the ID, but it is a very cool looking plant. Well done on the shot.

Nice image of that wild flower - whatever this one is. Nature around us is so beautiful. Thanks for sharing.

Patricia....great capture. I admire your skill with PS. You consistently produce excellent images. You get good images and then take them to a different level with your PS skills. I am sort of torn on the leaves LLC.....and think either a bit more DOF or shift the focus point so that at more of the blue petals at the top are sharper. All in all a very solid image of a very interesting subject and I have no clue what it is.

Very nice isolation Patricia. I like the soft light and the details in the bloom.

Nice shot, Patricia! Finally someone who can help with ID: this is a flowering Artichoke! What you can buy in cans or on your pizza etc. is the base of the young flower heads.

Patricia,
Really nice image. You couldn't ask for better clarity and natural looking colors. I do wish you would have moved that upper leaf out of the way for this shot.
