Ingenuous Pete D. ( It don't mean nuthin! )
by Pete D
This is a big, cheap print I had made at Dotphoto.com. It's not bad, but I wish it weren't glossy. The anthropological artifact holding the print is me. I'm not bad, but I wish my head weren't glossy.

14 commentsRock art was the central theme of my last trip to the high desert. Before the turn of the century I photographed a vandalized panel in Capitol Reef National Park. Despite the damage, I found the petroglyph charming. I had the slide scanned. When I started working with the file, I realized it was possible to hide a lot of vandalism by cloning. I removed a bunch of bullet holes and scratched names. It was great. So, I took a trip with a digital camera and a plan of recording rock art, despite condition, then "repairing" the indignities.
The photograph I'm holding required no repair. It is in Utah's Nine Mile Canyon. Despite being right at the roadside, it is remarkably well preserved. Other glyphs in the same area are pocked by bullet holes and marred by the usual scratched-in names. I photographed all I could find and fix them as best I can. I rework them every so often as my Photoshop skills improve.
The photograph above my left shoulder (with an orange level on top, Doh!) is the zipper glyph at Parowan Gap. You can't see it here, but this is an complex and mysterious record. That was the last site I visited on my way back to LAS. I want to get back out there, but I'm too dang stingy.

I wonder if your mercury levels are responsible for your personal metamorphis?
One thing is for sure, you sure are one changing dude - you've gone from notorious, to stingy to mercurial all in a few days.
I find it extremely interesting about what you've written about the rock art. Please go visit environmental photojournalism, as a month or so ago, I posted on this very subject. My only conern about our ability to change through photoshop may lessen our indignity towards the morons who perpetrate this horrendous transgressions against these national treasures.
I'm not sure John's theory of multiple facets to your personality is accurate. They may be full blown multiple personalities here... as far as going to acting classes, you couldn't play any part that ran more than one day. This whole thing is problematic! You just change too often, dude.
I'm not quite ready to give up on my first letter of each title theory. We now have "Nature Photographer Murders Moron In..." Of course, as you say Pete D. this may all "mean nuthin."
Well, we've exchanged views here on NPN on various subjects for a long time now. It's always quite nice to put a face with the person on the other end of the line.
All the best!
