I don't have an ID for this beetle. Taken on a relatively cool morning in Sabino Canyon on Sep. 23, 2007.

Canon 30D with 300mm f/4L + 1.4x TCII
1/100s, f5.6, ISO 500
Handheld

Very nice. I like the soft lighting and the clean background. my only complaint would be that some of the whites are a bit too bright but its more important to keep the detail in the blacks on the beetle

Beautiful shot, Sam. Looks like one of the Soldier beetles, probably Chauliognathus profundus. See http://bugguide.net/node/view/146509 for more info.
