Hovering Bee

Saw this bee at the Hospital garden hovering around the flower. The shot was taken pre-focus on the flower. When it came near to the flower, move my gears to re-focus it and snap it.

Excellent shot. Great lead-in towards the flower nicely placed in the corner. The leaf in back keeps the background from being too flat and static, yet it doesn't detract. Fantastic focus and great catchlight in the eyes.

Definitely a great photo, and the pre-focus/anticipation tip will stay with me. Thanks.

Wow, pretty cool to capture this Johnny!

You definitely get a feeling of suspense when looking at this, wondering what will happen next. Will the bee land on the flower with those stamen beckoning? Or will it go away to deposit the load of nectar it has already collected?

I can imagine you didn't have a ton of time for this shot, but moving the bee slighly to the left and including a little more of the flower would have helped with composition, since the bee wouldn't have been so close to center, and would have given the image a little more dynamism, giving the bee more room to 'move' into the frame.

I agree that the leaf behind the bee is not too distracting and adds an element to the photo, but if you had been able to separate the bee from the flower this would give the image more impact. I find my eye often returns to the underside of the bee to check to make sure it's not sitting on the leaf (I know it's not but my brain seems to need to confirm this while viewing the picture, and it distracts from the overall feel/impact of the image).

These are just some suggestions for things to think about in the future, this is still a great shot and well done!

Cheers,

CB

Wow! Great job getting this fella in focus and nice natural lighting too! I do wish more of the flower could be seen. I have been thinking of making this one of my photography goals this year, getting bees in flight, and now you've got me charged and looking for bees! :toast:

Johnny,

Excellent work on this one. Bee is very sharp and well illuminated. I like that you got a piece of the flower in the corner, sort of give direction to the bee, nice job.
