Do Leaves Dream in Color? WC 305

I posted the original of this image on ES&S on 11/7. Thought it might be fun to apply this week's challenge theme to it.

To achieve this image I created 6 duplicate layers of the original, then converted the background layer to B&W. Then I did selections based on color range for each of the main leaf colors (one color per layer). On each layer (all other layers but background invisible), I deleted everything that wasn't the chosen color, so that the B&W background layer showed through. Once all of the leaf colors were chosen and everything else was eliminated, I flattened the image.

It was a fun exercise. Comments on the result are appreciated.

I don't know about leaves dreaming in color, but I am! the color of those leaves against the gray limestone looks amazing.

I don't know if leaves do, but I'm glad I do! And this image might well be in my dreams in color. Wow, this is nice. Thanks for the generosity of sharing your experiment. Applause, applause for the results!

Very effective the way you accomplished this, Chuck. The B&W background and the colorful leaves compliment each other nicely. I appreciate that you tell us how you achieved this as well.

Excellent work, Chuck! The colorful leaves in the foreground draw the viewer in over the rocks and towards the background falls. :toast:

I'm new to photo editing so I would love to know how you selected the leaves based on the colour range and what program you used. I have a 7 year old version of photoshop but I'm hoping it hasn't changed much.
Thanks and congradulations of the Pick.
