Bobcat in Brush

From this morning on the grounds of a B&B on the outskirts of Tucson, next to Saguaro National Park. Wonderful morning, with a life bird (Elf Owl, posted on Avian), a coyote, a herd of javelinas, and the biggest surprise, this bobcat. Kind of made me jump when he first saundered out of the brush right in front of me...sure wasn't expecting it. This is the first one I've ever seen in the wild.

Canon 20D, 400 5.6L, full-frame.

Terry, after your post in the avian forum I was looking forward to a bobcat image. Great shot! Some great light you had...and I love the habitat you captured - I see these beauties from time to time, and this is exactly how I almost always see them before they disappear before I have a photographic chance.

Terry,

I like the inclusion of the typical environment, and I think you have been very lucky today.

A great shot, indeed. The foliage really adds to the overall feeling of the picture.

This is great Terry. His body is hidden slightly by the foreground branches, but that's what they do best. The eyes are very visible though replete with highlights. Looks like a big cat.

Gary...I used to chuckle when people confused bobcats with mountain lions, which you do see a lot with the out-of-place mountain lion sightings.

However, when this guy slowly stepped out of the brush in front of me, my heart jumped and "Mountain Lion" immediately came to mind. First one I'd ever seen, and he certainly was a lot bigger than I expected a bobcat to be. Pretty obvious once I focused on him, but it certainly had me going for a moment!
