WOW guys! The feeling of velvet here is just marvelous :toast: And the detail is awesome.

How do you like the D300? I've been toying with one for months ....

This is really great.

Carol,

We mostly like it: it handles auto exposures very well, (I'm always compensating with the 40D and the 5d), We both like the image quality, feel in the hand, 100% view in the view finder display and I like the number of sensor points that can be used for shot composition and Terri likes the the display on the back. (I never use it.) However, we both think the Canon 40D has a brighter internal display in the view finder and we both prefer the aperture control knob at the top of the body on the Canon to that on the Nikon - probably because we shot Canon's first. In all honesty the features I've described above are about all the features on any camera that we use so I can't tell you about all the other bells and whistles.

Also, I don't have a lens for it that I can do avian with so I haven't done any AI motion tracking with it to compare to Canon. I generally dislike the auto focus on every Canon I've tried for birds. I've lost more shots to poor auto focus algorithms than any other cause. I do use auto for flight shots, however.

Terri doesn't know that camera and lens systems do auto focus. I disable it via the lens switch and she never touches it. (smile)

If it weren't for the abysmal view finder interface display on the 5D, it would be a clear winner in my mind but in bright sunshine it's almost impossible for me to tell what my camera settings are at. The 40D is much improved in that regard and the D300 is somewhat improved.

Regards,
Terri and Pat
