I have always enjoyed the outdoors and creating images inspired by nature. Growing up in Iowa and Texas, I spent most of my free time exploring the outdoors. My junior year of high school I was given the opportunity to live and work in the East River Valley of the Elk Mountains in Colorado. There my connection with the wilderness was established, and my love for photography begun.
Along the way I was blessed with many wonderful mentors; from my art teacher in junior high who encouraged me to follow my passion for art, to my cousin Dennis Johns, a photographer and naturalist who introduced me to photography and taught me respect for the environment.
After several years detached from the wild, my partner Sally and I decided to move. In July 2001 we packed up and left the concrete jungle. Destination; Northern New Mexico and the Enchanted Circle. It is in the west that I have discovered what was missing in my life, a connection with the wilderness.
Although photography is not a full-time profession for me, it is a full-time passion. When I’m not working, Sally and I take pleasure in exploring the Four-Corners region with our dog Ouray, in pursuit of new and stirring vistas. It is through my photography that I hope to pass on appreciation and respect for the wild lands of the American West to others.
