Bobby Carlsen is a psychology professor at Averett University and a native of Danville, VA where he currently resides. He grew up roaming the woods and fields of the area, where he developed a love for nature and the wonderful creatures that live in it. As a youngster he was heavily influenced by the creative talents of his parents, and today recognizes their influence with fond appreciation.
Bobby has enjoyed a hobby of woodworking for several years, and has crafted many pieces of furniture, primarily from recycled wood. Additionally he has combined his love of nature with a camera and can be found taking photographs of many of the scenes he remembers as a child.
Bobby is a member of Nature and Travel Photographers Network. His photography is almost always framed in his own hand-crafted frames, and quite often the frames are made from wood removed from old barns in the area, some of which are over 100 yrs old. Each frame is constructed for a specific photograph, with attention to matching the mood of the photograph with the characteristics and rugged nature of the wood. His stamp of craftsmanship can be found on the back of each piece. His work currently can be found in two fine art galleries, “The Little Gallery” at Smith Mountain Lake, Virginia, and “Sweet Taters” in Danville, Virginia.
