Growing up in Colorado's awe-inspiring landscapes, I have always had a passion for nature. After 25 years as a geologist, striving to clean up the toxic legacy that threatens the sanctity and beauty of our environment, I turned to my true love, preserving and sharing nature's beauty. Resurrecting my childhood interest in photography, I spent several years teaching myself the fundamentals of photography and then honing those skills until I was able to capture the subtle nuances of nature's beauty on film. I strive to capture images that are distinctive and artistic, utilizing ephemeral natural lighting and weather phenomena to achieve dramatic and emotional landscapes.
I shoot primarily with a 6x7 medium format camera. I prefer 35mm for extreme closeups because of the magnifcation that it provides. Plus its small size is much easier to handle in really awkward positions that closeups often require.
My photographs have appeared in several magazines, including Nature Photographer, Shutterbug, Apogee Photo Magazine and Camping Today, as well as appearing in numerous calendars, greeting cards and postcards for At-A-Glance, Smith-Southwestern, Blue Sky Publishing, Mountain Sights and others. Commercially, I have provided images for Bureau of Land Management, 1stBank, Photographer's Edge catalog, and a music CD.
