Thank you for visiting my online gallery. I am a nature and travel photographer living in San Diego, California.
I view travel, adventure, and photography as an inseparable trio. It is often through the lens of a camera that I come to understand and appreciate the world we live in. Although I’ve spent a lot of time exploring the landscape of North America, my travels to other parts of the world have left a more profound impression on my life and growth as a photographer. I feel that travel is the surest way to enrich one's life; there is profound value in meeting new people and their cultures.
I have a wide range of photographic interests, though I am most inspired by the beauty of grand landscapes. I enjoy backpacking and climbing in the wilderness of the Sierra Nevada, and I have just begun to explore the beauty of the Southwest, Pacific Northwest, and Colorado Plateau. There are simply too many wonderful areas in this world to visit!
My other interests include surfing, martial arts, and cooking.
I currently shoot with a Canon 5D2 and several of the popular L lenses. I often carry an assortment of Singh-Ray GND filters, though I am just as likely to use blending and masking techniques in Photoshop to accomplish the same control over exposure. I believe post-processing techniques are as important as any other learned skill in photography, and I rarely shoot without a tripod. I think that the art of composition is the most difficult to learn (indeed I am still trying). And perhaps more important than anything else, one must get out into the field as often as possible to develop their artistic vision.
