While growing up in Southern California I was always outdoors doing things, as kids will do. My parents were always taking me to the beach and the mountains. In high school I took a photo class and fell in love with the process. I didn’t have a camera until I was 19. I went back to college in my 30’s and took some photo classes and fell in love again. I did mostly photojournalism in college, which I really enjoyed. I never pursued a profession in photography, but always enjoyed going on trips to the mountains and bringing a camera along. My best friend is also an avid photographer, its nice to have a friend along to share the travel expenses. Being in Southern California is a great home base for journeys to the High Sierra and the
Southwest or the North coast. I spend most of my photo time around Mono Lake, as my photos show. From this point you have Yosemite, Bodie, Death Valley and the Alabama Hills within driving range. Some of my friends say that I spend too much time in these areas taking photos. My response to them is there is never a bad day in the mountains, the high desert or the California coast. Besides it is about the journey, not the amount of work that that you can produce. I now have expanded my areas of travel to Costa Rica and will be going to New Zealand in the future. Oh by the way, the format that I use started out with a Nikon, went to a Canon. I also have a Bronica EC and a 4x5 for B/W. My first digital camera was a Canon G2. Now I mostly use my Canon 5D and my Canon G10.
