Stewart Schrauger got bitten by the photo bug while serving in the USAF in 1968. Shortly after the military, he started doing some work for local newspapers and some weddings in Montgomery and Bucks Counties, PA. He reenlisted in the Air Force (local reserve unit)as a base photographer, for a few years; then, in the mid-70's thru the late 80's, he concentrated on entertainment (rock)photography, doing a lot of work for radio stations, concert promoters, some record labels, and publicity shots for bands. During that time period, he also helped the Associated Press cover a lot of major auto races, including Nascar, Indy/Cart, and Formula One. He worked as a free-lance stringer photographer for the Morning Call, based in Allentown, PA, for over 14 years. Over the years, he has also done a lot of wedding photography, combining the traditional and photojournalistic styles. But for the last 15 years, his major passion has been for doing wildlife and nature photos. He confesses, that being out with nature is always a wonderful and spiritual experience. And getting close to potentially dangerous animals is, quite naturally, adrenaline pumping. To get close enough to capture a really terrific image without disturbing or harrassing the animal is a real challenge, and when successful, a reward like no other.
