I am a freelance photographer & writer living in the Yaak Valley of northwest Montana. I photograph and sell as stock a wide variety of subjects pertaining to the outdoors, yet my passion and specialty is in environmental issues and threatened wildlands in the Rocky Mountain Region of the United States and British Columbia. A partial list of clients that have published my work on environmental issues through stock sales, photo essays and assignment work include American Forests, Big Sky Journal, Defenders of Wildlife, Forest Magazine, National Wildlife, Natural Resources Defense Council, Orion, Sierra, The Trust for Public Land & The Wall Street Journal.
In addition to editorial photography I also provide on-location commercial/advertising photography for both non-profit and for-profit businesses, fine art print sales and custom digital scanning and printing services.
In 2006 I began the first in a series of year-long wildland projects covering the Inland Northwest Rocky Mountain Region. For my first project I’m working right here at home in the Yaak Valley, collaborating with friend and videographer David Stevenson. We will be producing and selling four nature DVD’s, one for each season in the Yaak forest. The DVD's will combine my still photos with David’s video clips, set to a combination of music and natural sounds. Our website, www.grizzlyhomestead.com, will go online in 2007 and in addition to DVD's we will also be offering products such as screensavers and fine art prints.
Another project I'm working on in 2006 is a series of framed gallery exhibit giclee watercolor prints showcasing the Cabinet Mountains of northwest Montana. This exhibit, which will be sponsored in part by the Rock Creek Alliance, will illustrate the intangible values that make the Cabinet’s such an incredibly beautiful mountain range and why hard rock mining proposals such as the Rock Creek Mine are simply not compatible with wilderness areas like the Cabinet Mountains Wilderness Area.
For this portfolio I have chosen some of my favorite photos taken over the past 12 years, along with images from along the Lewis and Clark Trail between Fort Mandan, North Dakota and Cannon Beach, Oregon. All of the images are available as fine art prints, please feel free to send me an email and I'll be happy to discuss the various styles, sizes and price ranges available.
