Although I have always been fascinated by nature, it was not until the fifth grade that I began to really see nature. It was then that I got my first pair of glasses. On the way home from the optometrist I exclaimed to my mother that a tree actually has individual looking leaves.
Shortly thereafter I began trying to photograph nature. With my 110 instamatic I tried to photograph birds, flowers and landscapes. Of course the birds were too small in the image, the flowers out of focus and the landscapes invariably had the horizon line right through the middle. When I was about 12 years old I took a rather respectable image of a meadowlark through binoculars. However, it was not until I received my first SLR camera from my father that I began to get serious about my photography and to develop my photographic eye.
I enjoy taking photographs of the grand landscapes. But I believe I get greater satisfaction from creating intimate images of scenes that are only a part of the landscape. I hope to convey to viewers of my photographs an appreciation for all of nature's beauty, wherever they find it. I would like for my photography to stimulate a desire in others to go beyond just looking at a landscape to really seeing everything that makes up the natural world.
