I have been making photographs for over 40 years, primarily as a photojournalist and advertising photographer, starting as staff photographer at the Davenport (IA) Times-Democrat. I moved from Kansas City to Colorado in 1975 to begin a 25-year career as a marketing executive for the Steamboat Ski Resort, and retired in 2000. Continuing to be active as a photographer over the years---including 12 years as official photographer for the Denver Broncos---my interest turned to travel, nature, and fine art photography.
During this time, I began to show my work in art shows and galleries as time allowed in my business career. My work can now be seen in galleries in Steamboat Springs (where I live), Kansas City, Long Grove, IL, Scottsdale, and Reno. All of the color work in the galleries is digitally enhanced with the use of layers and filters and printed on 100% rag paper. The black and white is straight documentary photography. I get published occasionally in magazines and also enjoy architectural photography.
Now, I have the time to travel primarily Colorado and the soutwestern part of our country "chasing the light." While I have lived in several cities, they hold no interest for me photographically. Having grown up in the country, I am continually drawn to the spectacular but also at times incredible subtlety of the landscapes that surround me and that are several hours or days down the open road. I have also published a book of photographs of the magical place I live---Steamboat Springs and the Yampa Valley in northwest Colorado. A preview of my book is on my website.
