Having been involved in photography for the past 30 years, I have seen and experienced many changes. Starting with a used Nikkormat camera in the late 1970's followed by a Nikon F2 in the early 1980's, I focused primarily on wildlife photography in the great state of Alaska where I was employed. I tried large format during this time with a wooden field camera but still focused on 35mm. Was able to explore and experience a variety wilderness areas in Alaska during this time. Graduate school forced me to leave Alaska for a couple or years only to return in 1989 where I lived and worked until 2005. Being able to retire in 2005, my wife and I left Alaska and now live on the Olympic Peninsula of Washington state. Since 1989, my focus has been on the landscape, using a 4x5 view camera, and this remains my focus today. Making images of the landscape, often photographing what Eliot Porter first coined as the Intimate Landscape, has allowed me to express my gratitude and appreciation for God's incredible gift of creation.
