Flowering Plants

Keywords: rose, garden, flower, summer

This photo was taken in a small, picturesque garden at Glen Magna Falls, in Danvers, Massachusetts. One thing I've learned by trial and error...when shooting flowers, whether close up or from far in the distance, pay close attention to what you put in the background. Whether the background is in focus or not, it can either be a distraction or an enhancement to the photo and its composition. This photograph of the pink roses, I feel, is a successful attempt to do just that. By putting the flowers, sharp and prominent, in the bottom corner of the foreground and using the small arc in the branches with one leaning to the opposite corner to frame them from above, not only does it make a well balanced image, it almost gives an impression of leading ones gaze toward the heavens.
