In the Surf

I’ve spent a lot of time at the beach marveling at how the little shore birds can be walking along in the crashing surf but never get hit by the waves. This sanderling was a real daredevil, waiting until the last second to dart out of the way as the water hit its feet. As this bigger-than-the-rest wave crashed in I thought my bird friend was going to really get wet, but it scampered out of the way and kept it feathers dry.
