I enjoyed a pleasant September afternoon resting against grandstand slopes viewing one of the highest rock walls in Colorado. Capital Peak, a spectacular 14er, lies deep within the Maroon Bells - SnowMass wilderness. The road to the area begins north of SnowMass and becomes single lane near the lower view area. Having a 4x4, I worked up a muddy more vertical climb past grazing cows to the higher view area. I like this photo for the brightly lit aspen groves and deep shadows that add shape to the anchoring slopes.
