I was out in a wetland area just fascinated with all the activity in the button bushes. They were just thick with two species of little tree frogs. The sun was beginning to go down and I was a ways from my truck, so I climbed out onto the boardwalk and noticed this little guy just sitting on the railing. Several feet behind him was a caterpillar crawling toward him. I'm not the brightest fellow sometimes. I set up my camera and tripod in front of him and was just merrily taking shots of the little frog as the caterpillar came closer and closer. Well, it's probably not any surprise to you, but when the caterpiller got within a couple of inches the little frog turned around, quicker than you could see and snapped up the caterpillar. I was so surprised. I really don't know what I was thinking, but it wasn't about that happening. Anyway, it took the little frog quite a while to finish his meal. He kept rubbing his mouth with his hand (the caterpillar was nearly as long as he was). That is what he is doing here. To me it looks all the world like he is smiling and waving at the camera, so he's my happy frog (well fed anyway). Hope you enjoy it. It makes me smile.
