Smoky Mountain Sunset Over the Chimneys

This image was taken from the heavily photographed Morton Overlook on Newfound Gap Road. Morton Overlook is a very popular location to get a classic sunset shot in the Smokies that includes "The Chimneys" (shown here in the lower right corner) along with the layered effect of the mountain ridges. I was fortunate that the sun made a brief appearance below the storm clouds to provide this dramatic lighting. I was only able to take a few image before I was in the midst of a downpour. This is the type of image that makes all of the effort worthwhile!
