Kashmir in 1989, when this photo was taken, had a prosperous tourist trade, largely based on the many houseboats available for hire. These were located mainly on Dahl Lake and also on Nagin Lake, providing visitors with delightful fully-seviced accomodation. Neither India nor Pakistan are gaining anything from their conflict, and the loser is Kashmir.
