The Eiger (3974m, 13,039ft) has been the scene of many dramatic ascents, and has become a testing ground for many of the world's best mountaineers. And the mountain's North face, seen on the left of the picture, has been the main arena. The photo was taken from Kleine Scheidegg in Switzerland's Bernese Oberland.
