Venice's Grand Canal - in October.

October is a great time to see Venice. You won't get the bustle of mid-summer, but it is not so hot and walking is more comfortable. You also have a better chance of getting a table for refreshments. A lot of the gondolas are tied up, but there is a nice softness in the light which more than compensates.
