The big-brother of the American alligator, American crocodiles are quite literally much, much larger. Tough, archaic-looking animals, the American crocodiles can be found in and around Florida Bay, Flamingo (in the Everglades) and around other pockets of South Florida. Though nearly wiped out from United States waters, extensive recovery attempts and protection-assistance has helped the American crocodiles regain a foothold in their natural environments of south Florida. I'm certainly happy to see their populations making a comeback and deeply hope the trend continues. They are magnificent archosaurs - a sturdy reminder of my favorite grouping of animals, the archosaurs.
