A view of Margerie Glacier and the ice-filled waters of Tarr Inlet in mid-summer. Margerie Glacier is currently considered one of the few stable glaciers in Glacier Bay NP at this time. Neither receding, thinning, or advancing to a significant degree, Margerie Glacier extends 250 feet above the waters of Tarr Inlet, is one mile in width, and stretches 21 miles in length. Its flow rate averages 6-8 feet per day, contributing to an everchanging profile when viewed from the water.
