Oxford #4 - The Oxford Picket
by George Brown
Buildings, Fences, Scenery
The 'Oxford Picket' as it is known graces many homes in the Oxford area. Nobody is quite sure who was the first to put up such a fence with its distinctive and exotic design -- the onion dome with center hole. Early photographs of the town show that the unique Oxford picket fence graced lawns in Oxford around the mid-1800s.
The quaint little seaport of Oxford is located on Maryland's Eastern Shore of the Chesapeake Bay.
