Here are a couple more from our big southwest tour back in May. Midweek we took off from Page, AZ at about 7PM, and headed northeast towards Monument Valley. After dark, about half way there, the truck started making a hideous rattling noise. Great. Middle of no where, night! DOH! We slowed it down just to be safe (our wonderful logic ) and made our way to the entrance of the Monument Valley visitors center. A few years before, I had just camped in the back of my truck in the lower parking lot. Well, this time we got there at about 10PM, and there was a gate across the just below the visitors center! DOH! So, I guess it would be the actual Monument Valley campground for the night. we felt kind of bad coming in after 10PM, and having the car make such a racket, but found a spot fast, and got to sleep.
Next morning, I made the tough 45 second walk over to the edge of the campground to this view. Well worth the effort!!!
After some breakfast, I crawled under the truck to find that the tailpipe had basically snapped off right at the muffler, hence the fun noises. Not a big deal. Drove a little out of the way up to Blanding to get some bailing wire to hold the thing on, and then were on our way to Hovenweep!
Wista 45DX
Calumet 6x7 Roll film back
Fuji Velvia 50
On your way back did you get to enjoy the Comb Wash area between Monument Valley and Blanding. It is scenery-intensive and full of 1-3 mile hikes up side canyons to anasazi ruins. Not many people and lots of cool scenery. This is really an out-of-the-way cool Utah spot to visit.
Ken, not on this trip I'm afraid. But we did do a little exploring on our trip out there a couple years ago. REALLY want to get back again!! Way to much to see!
