From yesterday evening. I visited Pewsey Downs Nature Reserve in search of Chalkhill Blues and found none. However I did find a good colony of Common Blues. It was quite breezy early on but it gradually subsided as the evening wore on. Luckily the sun stayed out and provided some pleasant end of day light.
There was still some breeze around when I took this shot so I was reluctant to go below 1/60th in order keep sharpness. Ideally I would have liked a bit more depth of field as the butterflies where not perfectly aligned. I think I just about get away with f6.3 here.
What an eyecatching composition. Very sharp with great colours. Bit of a shame about the striped BG, but still a very nice image.
What are the little red things on the abdomen of the right one?? (as we look at it)
Regards
Rob

Hi Rob
I wondered the same thing about the red things. I saw a few butterflies with these. I think they might be seeds or something from a plant that it has picked up, but I am not sure.
Any butterfly guru's out there that can shed some light on this? (closeup image below)
cheers
Sean

Shaun,
Great composistion, lovely background. This is the sort of image that makes me keep coming back & looking in awe at some of the work on here. Good work.

A great piece of photography, and those mites take it from unbelievable to believable, if you see what I mean?
Best wishes

Great shot and the mites just add to the story of the image.
