It was a nice morning. Rick asked that we get up at 4:30 to set up for a sunrise shot. The alarm went off, I opened the tent flap, looked at the black, black sky and said "Later." So I woke up again at 5, then at 5:30. Then I heard Rick snoring...
When I knocked on his tent flap he asked if there were any clouds. I said no, and he said I'm sleeping in. So I set out to find a nice reflection shot, Marc Adamus style (sort of ). While I was waiting there, I heard a humming sound around the Indian Paintbrush. I couldn't see anything but I knew it was a hummingbird. So I slowly walked into the middle of the Paintbrush and waited. He came closer and closer until he was at my feet and then came up and stared at me eye to eye. He chirped a little bit and then flew off to the rest of the flowers. It was too quick to grab the camera but it was great to meet a hummingbird up close like at home.
So I stood there for about 1/2 hour continually pumping off shots waiting for the right light on the mountain. I consider this the best one, even though I overdid the GND with 3 stops, it should've been 2 stops. I still like it, and it was great just being there, but I wish there was something extra somehow.
And, I want to admit, I changed the reflection color below since it almost blew out.
Tell me what you think.

Damn! Kevin! Beautiful.
(No one but photographers will ever notice but the sky closest to the sun is dark and further away it's brighter. In real life, it's always the reverse.)

Great story and a very nice shot. Looks like a very awesome place to spend a night.....
Hey Kev,
This looks pretty decent and well worth getting up for. I would have, but I already got similar shots the time before I haven't worked yet. For the record, I really enjoyed sleeping in .
Hey, thanks all! And Rick, I was pretty sure you had something like this already, otherwise I think you would've snapped to attention at 4:30 AM Anyways, I'm ready for Rainier!
